UC Merced Word and Excel Templates

What is in this folder
- Word template: UC_Merced_Accessible_Word_Template.dotx
- Excel template: UC_Merced_Accessible_Excel_Template.xltx

Easiest way to use a template
1. Open this folder.
2. Double-click the Word or Excel template.
3. A new document or workbook will open.
4. Save it with a new file name before editing.

How to make the templates show up in Word or Excel
If you want these templates to appear when you choose File > New:

1. Copy both template files.
2. Open your Office templates folder.
3. Paste the files there.
4. Quit and reopen Word or Excel.
5. Choose File > New from Template.

Mac template folder:
Library > Group Containers > UBF8T346G9.Office > User Content.localized > Templates.localized

Windows template folder:
Documents > Custom Office Templates

Accessibility reminders
- Use headings in order: Heading 1, then Heading 2, then Heading 3.
- Use tables only for data, not for page layout.
- Make sure tables have clear column headings.
- Do not use color as the only way to show meaning.
- Run Review > Check Accessibility before sharing.

Alt text for images and charts
1. Select the image or chart.
2. Open the context menu.
3. Choose View Alt Text.
4. Briefly describe the purpose of the image or chart.
5. If the image is only decorative, mark it as decorative.
